Vehicle Description
The Car
Quintessential sports car, or simple, everyday classic? The MGB GT has earned its spurs as the go-to classic sports car for those who want a simple, easy to maintain and useable classic car
Like Elvis or the Beatles, the MGB GT’s popularity seems to be eternal. And with good reason: by combining handsome GT bodywork with rugged BMC underpinnings, the MGB is still more than capable of offering easy, trouble-free classic motoring.
This particular example that we have for sale is a 1972 chrome bumpered Mk3. It is finished in Old English White with black interior and is showing 95485 miles recorded. It is not the most perfect example but it is very solid, drives nicely and is more than presentable, please read on for a full appraisal.

The Mechanicals
Powered by the venerable 1798cc Austin B-series engine, breathing through twin SU carbs, ours has the advantage of a Gold Seal engine replacement. These engines were reconditioned units built by Unipart and are well reputed to have been far better than the original factory fitted engine!
Ours certainly appears to be in fine health. It starts easily with zero smoke or rattles and ticks over nicely.
Out on the road it performs very well with quite peppy performance, it holds very good oil pressure even when hot and has no nasty leaks.
It has also been treated to lot of new parts over the last couple of three years, including new brake and clutch master cylinders, new brake servo, new water pump, new tank sender unit, new HT leads, new radiator, new filters, new fuel pump and fuel lines. We have also just replaced both 6v batteries.

The Exterior
Finished in Old English White our MGB GT looks quite presentable, it isn’t the best paint job we have ever seen but there no nasty areas of corrosion and it has a decent gloss to it. All of trim apart from the “B GT” boot badge is present and correct and in fair condition. One standout aspect of the exterior, are the lovely chrome knock off wire wheels which complement the chrome bumpers beautifully. They are also in excellent condition and are wrapped in nearly new tyres.
Underneath the MG is very solid with no areas of corrosion to cause concern and very little evidence of previous repairs.
So, not a show stopper but quite presentable and good and solid.

The Interior
Moving inside, the interior, much like the exterior is presentable but not perfect. The front seats have some nicely fitted black leatherette covers with red piping and look very smart, the rear seat is in its original upholstery and is also in nice condition. The black carpets are clean and tidy and the dash pad is crack free. The steering wheel could do with a centre MG badge and the rear ¼ panel coverings have come unstuck. The centre console is not particularly secure and the glovebox lid is missing but these are all minor cosmetics that would be cheap and not too time consuming to address should you wish to.

The Paperwork
The MG comes with its V5, current and clear HPi report and collection of invoices for parts and service items.

Conclusion
Legions of MGB owners can vouch for how good an all-rounder this perennial sports car is. Its combination of user-friendly drivability, DIY mechanicals and exceptional parts supply combine to make sense no matter which way you look at it.
Our particular example is structurally solid, in very good mechanical order and is great fun to drive, yes there is room for improvement in the cosmetics but it just requires tinkering and that is surely half the fun of owning one!!
