Vehicle Description
Well, here’s something a bit different! A full military spec G-Wagon Wolf.
The Wolf version of the G-Wagon was developed specifically for military use, they have now been deployed by over 45 nations, including US, Australia, Canada, The UK and Singapore, which is where our particular G-Wagon is from.

History

Owned by the Singaporean military, our G-Wagon was built in 1990 and spent its life as a sentry vehicle accumulating just 3858 Kms (2397 Miles) We are guessing the base was fairly close to the sentry box!

The Exterior

The bodywork is in great shape with no dents or damage to speak of. The “Military Green” satin paint looks in great used condition with absolutely no signs of corrosion
Being a military vehicle, it has lightweight doors, which lift off, and a fold down windscreen. Our G-Wagon also comes with a frame and canvas hood which is in very good condition, only the slight hazing to the plastic window panels give away it’s age. It has fold up sides and rear panel or can be removed completely.
The underside looks in great condition, again with zero corrosion and no oil leaks.
It rolls on its original 16” steel wheels wrapped in a matching set of very chunky Michelin off road tyres, all of which reflect the very minimal use the vehicle has had.

The Mechanicals

The Wolf is powered by a 2.4 Litre naturally aspirated 4 cylinder diesel engine with selectable 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive via a 2 speed transfer case and 4 speed manual transmission.
The 2 speed transfer case gives the G240 both high and low range, the high range is for normal road use and higher speed driving and the low range is for more challenging, low speed off road terrain, making the Wolf near enough unstoppable.
The naturally aspirated diesel engine used by Mercedes in the Wolf series may not be the most powerful of the bunch but is pretty much bombproof, as longevity and reliability was prioritized over everything else. It produces 71 BHP and 101 Lb ft of torque and has proven itself in military use for over 40 years right around the world. It’s said that a Wolf can run for a million miles at a minimum with just standard maintenance and you never have to worry about getting a speeding ticket!
As with all first generation G Wagons, the G240 has the classic body on chassis construction with live axles front and rear riding on coil springs, giving great axle articulation and cementing its off road prowess.
This particular G Wagon is in fine mechanical order, it fires on the button, after a short pre heat of the glow plugs, with no smoke or unwanted noises, the transfer box selects nicely into all modes and the clutch is smooth and pleasant to use, no surprise really as it only has just over 2000 miles on the clock and has been maintained by the Singaporean military. Thankfully, it has power steering fitted which combined with the light clutch makes this G not nearly as intimidating to drive as you might think.

The Interior

The very utilitarian black vinyl seats fitted in the front of the G Wagon have stood the test of time very well. The covers appear in great condition with no damage, rips or tears to report. It’s a similar story with rear fold down seats, just some age related wear.
Being an ex military vehicle, there are no carpets, just the exposed painted floorpan with removable bungs to drain any water out.
The Dashboard has no cracks or damage and all warning lights and gauges appear to be working as they should. We did notice a crack on the amp/volt meters housing but apart from that, it’s all good
All in all the interior presents very nicely

Conclusion

We love our Land Rovers, but this ultra low mileage, military G Wagon is next level in regards of build quality and reliability. It is incredibly capable off road and would be perfect for a collector of military vehicles, for country pursuits or to raise a few eyebrows on the school run!
The vehicle is currently un registered in the UK but we will have it registered in your name, making you the first UK owner. It will also be MOT’d and serviced upon purchase.
As with all cars in our cars, we have described the G Wagon honestly and with transparency, drawing attention to the good points and the imperfections equally, allowing you to make an informed decision.
Viewing is highly recommended and can be done at our Tewkesbury HQ, Monday to Saturday by appointment.
